Kohlschreiber's experience shines through

Former champion Phillip Kohlschreiber believes his experience helped him in his three-set win over rising American teenage star Ryan Harrison, as the German made the quarter-finals at the Heineken tennis Open in Auckland.

Kohlschreiber had only failed to make the quarters once in his seven previous visits to Stanley Street and broke Harrison's serve first in all three sets.

Though the 19-year-old came back to win the first set 6-4, Kohlschreiber won the second by the same scoreline and the mercurial Harrison smashed a racket in frustration after losing the opening service game of the third set, the 28-year-old going on to take it 6-3.

The number two seed Nicolas Almagro of Spain also beat Colombia's Santiano Giraldo in straight sets.

Earlier Alejandro Falla of Colombia became the first player into the quarter-finals with a straight sets victory over Italy's Potito Starace.
