Thorpe says he may have left Olympic run to late

The Australian swimmer Ian Thorpe has conceded he may have left his run too late for an Olympic comeback.

Thorpe failed to qualify for the final of the 100 metres freestyle at the Victorian swimming championships on Friday.

The 29-year-old is still well off the 100 pace, recording the 13th quickest time in the morning heats, well behind the fastest qualifier.

His time was slower than which he clocked in Italy last month and a long way off the Olympic A-qualifying time.

Two months away from Australia's Olympic trials Thorpe says maybe his run for the Olympics is a little bit late.
