Patriots vs Giants in Super Bowl

8:18 pm on 23 January 2012

The New England Patriots and the New York Giants have booked a rematch next month of their dramatic 2008 Super Bowl showdown, with tense twin playoff triumphs.

The Giants needed a field goal in overtime to clinch the National Football Conference championship by 20-17 over the San Francisco 49ers in Indianapolis - while in Massachusetts the Patriots edged the Baltimore Ravens 23-20 in the American Football Conference final.

The Patriots escaped two close shaves late in the game to reach the Big Show for the seventh time.

Ravens receiver Lee Evans had a potential game-winning pass stripped from his hands and, two plays later, Billy Cundiff missed a 32-yard field goal that would have forced overtime in the final seconds of the game at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts.

The Patriots have won 10 consecutive games dating back to the regular season.
