6:37 am on 28 January 2012

A record basketball crowd at Vector Arena witnessed the ANBL's New Zealand Breakers thrash the visiting Sydney Kings 93-64 to record their fourth-straight win.

Almost 8,000 fans crammed into the downtown Auckland stadium, the most ever to attend a basketball game in New Zealand.

None went home disappointed as American Gary Wilkinson scored 18 points to lead the home side to victory and cement the defending champions place at the top of the ANBL ladder.

Tom Abercrombie (16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists) and Cedric Jackson (10 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals) also played major roles for the hosts, while centre Julian Khazzouh scored 20 points for the Kings.

The victory elevated the Breakers to 14-5 for the season ahead of their top-of-the-table clash with Perth Wildcats at North Shore Events Centre next Thursday.

Also last night the last placed Hawks carved out a commanding 90-68 win over the sixth placed Melbourne Tigers in Wollongong.
