Rain forces cancellation of A-League clash

Queensland's wild weather forced A-League football officials to call off Gold Coast United's home clash against Central Coast last night.

Localised flooding around Skilled Park and rising water from the nearby Robina river caused concerns although the pitch was playable despite all the rain.

Meetings involving the clubs, stadium officials, match officials and the FFA went on for more than four hours on Friday before an announcement was finally made.

It's understood Gold Coast's concerns for fan safety played a big part in the late decision.
