New Australian captain defends his T/20 record

8:15 am on 1 February 2012

Australia's new Twenty/20 captain George Bailey has defended his place in the side after his selection over the dumped Cameron White raised eyebrows, particularly with the 29-year-old having a modest Big Bash campaign for the Melbourne Stars.

Bailey, who'll be making his debut for Australia in any form of the game in tonight's T20 match in Sydney, concedes he will only win respect as captain if he scores runs himself.

His highest score in the shortest format is 60 and he has made only one T20 half-century in the past three seasons.

Bailey concedes he's nervous about captaining Australia but he says his record speaks for itself.
