City thump Fulham in the snow

11:08 am on 5 February 2012

Manchester City's beaten visitors Fulham 3-0 in snowy conditions at home, to take back the outright lead in English football's Premier League - for now.

Cross-town rivals Manchester United play at fourth-placed Chelsea on Monday.

A first-half Sergio Aguero penalty and an Adam Johnson own goal along with a second half Edin Dzeko finish were enough for City to take all the points at the Etihad Stadium and put all the pressure back on chasing United.

Elsewhere, Arsenal crushed a woeful Blackburn Rovers 7-1 in London with captain Robin van Persie scoring a hat-trick and substitute Thierry Henry notching his first League goal since he returned to the club last month.

Promising teenager Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain netted twice and Mikel Arteta added the other as the Gunners climbed from seventh to fifth. A 43rd minute red card to Gael Givet also didn't help Rovers, who slip to second bottom above Wigan Athletic, who drew 1-1 with visitors Everton.

Norwich City beat now 18th-placed Bolton, 2-1 at home while there were also wins for Wolves at 10-man Queens Park Rangers, and Swansea City at West Bromwich Albion, both also 2-1.

Sunderland won 1-0 at 10-man Stoke City.
