The dressage rider Louisa Hill and her horse Bates Antonello have been named as New Zealand's first equestrian representatives for the London Olympic Games.

It will be Hill's second Olympics having competed at Athens in 2004.

The chief executive of Equestrian NZ Jim Ellis is hopeful other dressage combinations may yet meet the selection criteria.

The New Zealand eventing team is due to be named in early July.

There are three equestrian disciplines at the Olympics, dressage, showjumping and eventing.

New Zealand will be represented in eventing and dressage.
