The French rugby star Sebastien Chabal won't be playing for an Australian Super Rugby team this season - his plan to play in the country will be at a far lower level.

Chabal's announcement that he was to play in Australia this season set alight the Super Rugby headlines, however it has now been revealed that he'll make a one-game cameo for the Sydney second division side Balmain.

The Balmain club President Warren Livingstone told the Daily Telegraph they had a spot in their international roster with Matt Giteau now playing in France and wanted a high profile player to turn out a couple of times.

Chabal has been strongly linked with Parisian rivals Stade Français since quitting Racing Metro last week after a fall out with manager Pierre Berbizier.
