No suprises on day one of Rowing Champs

6:08 am on 15 February 2012

There were no major suprises on the first day of the National Rowing Championships on Lake Karapiro with Mahe Drysdale winning his heat of the men's singles sculls and Eric Murray the other.

They are two of the longest serving members of the New Zealand squad and rowed together in Athens in the straight four.

Hamish Bond - going for a fifth straight title in the men's pairs and a fourth straight win with fellow Southern athlete Jade Uru - recorded the fastest time of the day.

The finals are at the weekend.
