Jesse Ryder, Andy McKay, and James Franklin have been included in New Zealand's One Day International squad for the three match cricket series against South Africa.

From the ODI squad that played Zimbabwe, Dean Brownlie and Jacob Oram miss out through injury, while young batsman Tom Latham was not selected.

National selection manager Kim Littlejohn says they were pleased with Latham's first stint at international level but felt it was best for him to return to domestic cricket for his overall development.

He says Franklin has been in good touch during the current Twenty20 series while Ryder is ready for a return - he's already been included in the squad for the third and final match of the 20-over game on Wednesday.

Littlejohn says consistent performances across the summer have seen Andy McKay bolster the bowling attack.
