Ponting still wants to play Test cricket despite ODI dropping

The former Australia cricket captain Ricky Ponting concedes his one day international career is over but intends continuing his Test career.

The 37-year-old Ponting was on Monday dropped from the Australian one day squad after a run of low scores in the Tri-series against India and Sri Lanka.

Ponting says he understands the selectors' reasons for his dropping and their plans to develop players for the 2015 World Cup but it hasn't prompted him to retire altogether.

After good form in the recent Test series against India, Ponting intends adding to his 162-Test career record hoping to earn a spot for Australia's upcoming three-match tour of the Caribbean, and has a long term goal of playing in next year's Ashes tour of England.
