The world's top amateur golfer, 14 year old New Zealander Lydia Ko, has withdrawn because of illness despite leading the Riversdale Cup amateur tournament in Melbourne.

Ko shot an opening round three-under par 70 yesterday to lead by two shots but has withdrawn after waking up feeling dizzy and nauseous.

Ko, whose schedule includes a professional event in China next week, has had a strong year so far winning the Australian amateur title and becoming the youngest winner of a professional title at the New South Wales Open.
