First up win for Football Ferns

12:33 pm on 29 February 2012

The New Zealand women's football team has started its Cyprus Cup tournament with a 2-nil victory over Northern Ireland in Paralimni.

Amber Hearn scored both goals in the second half to put the Football Ferns on top of their group.

South Korea beat South Africa 2-1 in the other group match.

New Zealand coach Tony Readings says they've gathered some momentum from the game.... they kept and moved the ball very well and that's something they'll be focussed on for the rest of the tournament.

Next up for the Football Ferns is South Africa.
