The New Zealand cricket captain Brendon McCullum says his side's loss in the one day international against South Africa last night came down to key moments in the game.

At 162 for 2, the Blackcaps looked on track for achieving a competitive score at Auckland's Eden Park of around 300, but lost three quick wickets and crumbled to be all out for 230.

South Africa reached the target with more than 10 overs to spare.

Standin captain McCullum says there were periods when New Zealand had the momentum but lost it during vital periods of the game.
