Cummins suffers new cricket setback

Teenage Australian paceman Pat Cummins has suffered another setback as he tries to return to international cricket.

National selectors had wanted to take the 18-year-old on next month's West Indies tour, but that won't happen now after a recurring injury flared up.

The chairman of selectors John Inverarity says they would rather he get to full fitness in his own time without the pressure of trying to be ready for this Twenty20 series or having a deadline.

Cummins made a stunning Test debut last year, taking seven wickets and hitting the winning runs in November against South Africa in Johannesburg.

But he also suffered the heel injury in that game and he has not played since.

Yesterday Australia announced the one-day and T20 squads for the West Indies tour, with fellow pacemen Ryan Harris and Mitchell Starc overlooked.

As expected, Brad Haddin will join Matthew Wade as the wicketkeepers.
