An investigation is under way into the deaths of 13 newborn babies in 24 hours at a state hospital in the western Turkish city of Izmir.
Turkish newspapers reported that the babies, all prematurely born and under-developed, died at Tepecik hospital at the weekend, and suggested that an infection was to blame.
In July, 27 newborn babies died in 15 days at a state hospital in the capital Ankara.
The hospital said at the time that the deaths were caused by a variety of factors, including hypertension, heart failure and complications at birth, but trade unions blamed it on an infection triggered by poor sanitary conditions.
