Result of norovirus inquiry months away

12:00 pm on 1 October 2008

An internal inquiry into a Norovirus outbreak at Dunedin Hospital during August is not likely to be complete for another couple of months.

More than 2000 outpatient appointments were cancelled and about 160 staff and patients were affected.

The Otago District Health Board says the first stage, a comprehensive debrief with staff, is almost complete.

A "sentinel event review" is also being undertaken, examining the board's processes as it dealt with the outbreak, and whether anything could or should have been done differently.

It will also consider how the Norovirus continued to spread over several weeks.
