Hurricane Norbert has been upgraded to a Catagory 4 storm in the Pacific and is heading for Mexico's Baja California peninsula.

The US National Hurricane Center said on Wednesday the storm, with winds over 215km per hour, is due to make landfall at the weekend.

It is the second major storm to threaten Mexico in recent days. Tropical Storm Marco hit the Atlantic coast on Tuesday, causing flooding in the state of Veracruz.
