New farmer supply arrangements issued

Silver Fern Farms has issued details of new farmer supply arrangements and pricing structure.

The meat processor and exporter says the aim is to contract farmers for the longer-term, as well as providing price incentives to encourage farmers to supply livestock outside the peak processing season.

Currently 70% of meat processing is done between December - May each year, but Silver Fern says customers overseas are asking for year-round supply.

Chief executive Keith Cooper says prices are being offered 12 months in advance for lamb, beef and venison, which allows farmers to plan ahead.
