Renowned Dunedin educator dies three weeks shy of 100th birthday

Dame Daphne Purves, a Dunedin woman with a long list of educational achievements has died, aged 99.

She was just three weeks short of her 100th birthday.

Dame Daphne Purves, who held a Master of Arts in languages including French, created a language department at Dunedin Teachers College during her lifetime.

She was also the subject of a biography, Nothing Like a Dame, by Molly Anderson.
