An Italian businessman who dated Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway has been sentenced to four-and-a half-years in prison for fraud.
Raffaello Follieri, 30, pleaded guilty in September to fraudulently obtaining $US2.4 million by misleading investors to believe he had Vatican connections, enabling him to buy unwanted Catholic Church properties in the United States at a discount.
Hathaway, who starred in The Devil Wears Prada told W magazine in September that she felt like "a rug was pulled out from under me" when Follieri was arrested in June.
