Several earthquakes occurred the North Island overnight.
The largest, measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale, was 10km north of Matata in the Bay of Plenty at 11.59pm on Sunday.
Four minutes later there was an aftershock measuring 3.6 - the same magnitude as another earlier on Sunday at 5.57pm. All were at a depth of 5km.
Another earthquake was 30km north-west of Wellington at 3am on Monday, measuring 3.7 on Richter scale, at a depth of 40km.
