Man in court after armed police callout in Hutt

11:25 am on 7 November 2008

A man who sparked a major armed offenders callout in Hutt Valley near Wellington on Thursday has appeared in the Lower Hutt District Court.

Matthew Kidman faced charges of unlawfully possessing and carrying a firearm, presenting a firearm, receiving property and theft.

He entered no plea on Friday and was remanded in custody to re-appear in court on 25 November.

The police spent Thursday scouring parts of Hutt Valley in their search for Mr Kidman, who was wanted in connection with an incident in the suburb of Naenae.

The Upper Hutt area commander, Inspector Mike Hill, says officers found a car they believe was used to transport Mr Kidman just before 5pm on Thursday.

He was found at a house on Fergusson Drive, in the northern suburbs of Upper Hutt, shortly after 7pm, and arrested without incident.
