Northland expects political rewards, says mayor

4:48 pm on 13 November 2008

Far North Mayor Wayne Brown says Northland is looking forward to tangible rewards for a long period of supporting the National Party.

The Far North and Whangarei electorates again returned National MPs, John Carter and Phil Heatley, with large majorities.

Mr Brown says Northland has been solidly blue for a very long time and now wants something back for its loyalty.

He says with two National MPs in the new government, Northland expects funding for better roads and sewage treatment schemes, for starters.

Mr Brown says Northland now has a strong voice across the House, with Hone Harawira winning Tai Tokerau and two Labour list MPs, Kelvin Davis and Shane Jones.
