Several Auckland mayors are lining up to talk with the incoming National government, to push the region's interests.

Auckland City mayor John Banks, a former National cabinet minister, says he is keen for the caucus to move quickly on promises to overhaul the Resource Management Act.

Waitakere City deputy mayor Penny Hulse is hoping the new Government will have a special focus on a number of the city's major projects which fall in John Key's electorate.

And she is buoyed by indications of support from National for Whenuapai as ain airport base.

Manukau's mayor Len Brown says he'll be watching how quickly National fulfils its promise for 300 extra police.

Auckland Regional Council chairman Mike Lee wants to get to work as soon as possible on fixing the region's transport problems.

All the mayors say they want to know how John Key will deal with recommendations due out next year from the Royal Commission looking into the reform of the region's local government.
