Clubs extend deadline on Tasman rugby future

7:10 am on 18 November 2008

Marlborough rugby clubs have extended a deadline for the Tasman union to provide them with an acceptable budget.

The Marlborough sub-union earlier gave Tasman until Tuesday, to provide details on how it would substantially reduce a deficit of more than $600,000 - otherwise it would pull out of the combined Nelson-Marlborough setup.

However, the clubs have now agreed to wait until 28 November, the date that the New Zealand Rugby Union has given for Tasman to meet its financial criteria to remain in the Air New Zealand Cup.
