Fewer jobs for students this summer

There are 20% fewer jobs available to tertiary students this summer, compared with recent summers.

With less work available this summer, the employment agency Student Job Search says students should be flexible in what they are willing to do - and employers worried about hiring permanent staff in uncertain times should consider hiring a student in a short-term role.

The agency says employer feedback shows that 85% are satisfied with their student employees.

The national marketing and communications manager of Student Job Search, Lorna McConnon, says it is important for students to find work between academic years, both for money to support themselves and for employment skills and personal development.
