A hiking guide, reported missing while walking near the Livingstone Mountains in Fiordland, has been found dead.
Te Anau police say searchers found the body of Mitchell James Walker, of Queenstown, on Thursday afternoon.
Mr Walker, 22, had been exploring an area south of the McKellar Hut above the Greenstone Track on his own.
He was reported missing on Wednesday night.
Police say Mr Walker was apparently trying to descend a ridge, but fell 40 metres to a rugged creek bed.
His death has been referred to the Coroner.
