New Zealand's largest private provider of pre-school services and after-school programmes is appealing to the Government to address what is says is a funding crisis.
Kidicorp owner Wayne Wright said 24 programmes under the 'School's Out' brand need more Government funding, otherwise some after-school care services will have to close.
Mr Wright said parents are encouraged to work but there is no proper support for those with children at primary school.
He said Kidicorp faces $400,000 loss this year and because funding is contestable there is no guarantee current programmes will continue to be funded.
Mr Wright believes smaller afterschool care operators fail because of the lack of certainty around the funding formula.
