Toyota recalls Yaris model

3:25 pm on 29 January 2009

New model Toyota Yaris cars are to be recalled in New Zealand due to a possible fault with seatbelts.

Toyota says 3027 new model Yaris vehicles, in production from June 2005 to April 2007 are affected, as well as 16 used imports, 11 Vitz, and five Ractis model cars.

The fault relates to a high temperature gas in part of the seatbelt, which could cause a fire in the event of a crash.

No incidents have been reported in New Zealand but three cases have occurred overseas.

Toyota New Zealand says all affected owners will be notified and the problem fixed free of charge.
