Youth shot in Masterton

1:17 pm on 31 January 2009

It appears a neighbourhood feud led to the shooting of a teenager in Masterton on Saturday.

Police were called to an address in Makora Road at about 5am after a youth, 17, was shot in the leg.

Wairarapa Ambulance service manager Debbie Lodge-Schnellenberg says the same patient was attended last weekend for an injury to his arm.

He is being taken to Hutt Hospital and is described as being in a serious but stable condition.

The incident is believed to be the result of a continuing dispute.

Police say they're speaking to "people of interest".

Ms Lodge-Schenellenberg says a group of young people, many under the influence of drugs or alcohol, were gathered on the street and the ambulance crew was abused while they waited for police to clear the scene.
