Complaint over Dunedin stadium funding ads upheld

A complaint about promotional material used to encourage private investors to commit funding to Dunedin's proposed new stadium has been upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority.

The Marketing Bureau Limited's direct mail advertisement on behalf of the Carisbrook Stadium Trust states that public funding for the stadium has been confirmed.

The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld a complaint by a member of the Stop the Stadium lobby group, that the statement is false.

The group's president, Bev Butler, says that means private funding contracts could be void if legally challenged on the basis of a misleading promotion.

She says city councillors need to bear this in mind when they meet to decide the project's fate on Monday.
