Markets in Asia were slightly higher at the end of the trading week, but the New Zealand index remained flat.

The Australian stock market rose just over 1% by the close on Friday, led by the financial sector after Wall Street rallied.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 was up 44.8 points, or 1.27%, at 3,559.1, while the broader All Ordinaries gained 38.2 points, or 1.1% to 3,496.7

In Japan, share prices closed up 0.96%, supported by a weaker yen and bargain hunting after the previous day's sharp losses, dealers said.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange's benchmark Nikkei-225 index climbed 74.04 points to end at 7,779.40.

The broader Topix index of all first-section shares added 4.30 points, or 0.57%, to 764.59.

In New Zealand, the benchmark index was flat at 2750 on low market turnover of $67 million.
