Job market worst in 20 years for journalism graduates

Journalism graduates find it is increasingly difficult to find work.

Whitireia Polytechnic journalism programme head Jim Tucker, says the job market for journalists is the most uncertain he's seen in 20 years.

Most of the 200 journalism students graduating around New Zealand each year, generally find jobs.

But Mr Tucker says the recession and major transformations in the media industry mean there are fewer jobs available now.

Massey University journalism programme head Grant Hannis, says the industry is retrenching and there is a reduction in demand for journalists and new recruits.
