Financial job losses accelerating - UN agency

A UN agency says jobs in the global financial sector are disappearing at an accelerating rate.

A report from the International Labour Organisation on the impact of the economic crisis said that financial services employment is now likely to shrink permanently.

The ILO said on Monday that redundancies are likely to affect all kinds of jobs in the sector, including information technology specialists.

While the losses are worldwide, the ILO said financial centres like New York and London will bear the brunt.

More than 20 million people are currently employed in the sector.
