90-day jobs law will be monitored - minister

11:02 am on 3 March 2009

Labour Minister Kate Wilkinson says the Government's 90-day probation employment law will help people into jobs while the economy is in unknown territory.

Ms Wilkinson has given her first major public speech as minister to an industrial relations conference in Auckland, two days after the probation provisions came into effect on 1 March.

She says the Government will closely monitor how the law works.

Ms Wilkinson also says a working group is being established to review holidays legislation, as part of changes the National Party wants that were highlighted in its pre-election manifesto.

They include the ability to exchange the fourth week of annual leave for a cash payment.
