Attempted robbery at Christchurch currency exchange

7:41 am on 7 March 2009

A man held up a Christchurch currency exchange at gunpoint but failed to escape with any cash.

Shortly after 9am on Friday a man pointed a firearm at staff working at the currency exchange, on Colombo Street, and demanded money.

The staff escaped through a back door, and the man also left the scene after failing to obtain any money.

The police haven't yet established whether the firearm was real, but say the man's behaviour does not suggest the public should fear for their safety.
