ICC can't guarantee player safety post terror attack

The International Cricket Council says it cannot guarantee the safety and security of international cricketers in any part of the world in the wake of the Lahore terrorist attacks on the Sri Lankan team.

Asked whether the ICC was unable to ensure player security at the 2011 World Cup to be held on the subcontinent, chief executive Haroon Lorgat replied that would be the attitude to any event anywhere in the world.

Mr Lorgat says the ICC will issue a more extensive response to the Lahore attack after next month's board meeting.

Six Pakistani police officers and the bus driver were killed in the attack last Tuesday. Several of the Sri Lankan cricket squad were wounded when gunmen opened fire on their bus.
