Police in Taupo are investigating the death of a five-week-old baby who died at the weekend in Auckland's Starship Hospital.
The infant was transferred to Auckland on Thursday night with brain injuries and died on Saturday morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner says a post-mortem is yet to be completed, and family members are co-operating with investigators.
Mr Turner says police are yet to establish the cause of death and the baby's name will not be released until next of kin have been notified.
