Loss of network funding will hurt companies, say Greens

The withdrawal of government funding for the Sustainable Business Network will greatly disadvantage local companies in future, predicts the Green Party.

The network shows businesses how to adopt practices seen as environmentally friendly and socially responsible.

It had a three-year funding deal worth $750,000 from the Ministry for the Environment.

The ministry says the last $250,000 instalment will not go ahead because all government departments are being required to cut spending.

The Green Party says the move is a step backwards for New Zealand businesses, which will miss out on opportunities offered by what it describes as an impending "green economic revolution".
