Two Air New Zealand pilots have been given international bravery awards for safely landing a plane in an attempted hijack last year.
Dion McMillan and co-pilot Ross Haverfield from Nelson were presented with the awards at the International Airline Pilots Federation conference in Auckland on Saturday.
Mr McMillan accepted the award on behalf of both men and said he often thinks back to how lucky he was that day, when the outcome could have been much more serious.
He said he was unable to say much about the incident because court action is pending.
Asha Abdille, who is charged with hijacking the flight and stabbing the pilots and a passenger, is due to go on trial in Christchurch in September.
