Kurariki in custody after assault charge

9:30 pm on 30 March 2009

Bailey Junior Kurariki, one of the country's youngest convicted killers, is again behind bars after appearing in court charged with assault.

Mr Kurariki was arrested on Sunday and charged with assaulting a woman in the Auckland suburb of Otara.

At the Manukau District Court on Monday he was remanded in custody until May.

Mr Kurariki was sentenced to seven years in jail in 2002 for his role in the fatal beating of pizza worker Michael Choy.

He has been accused of breaching parole several times since his release and faces a defended hearing on those matters later this year.
