Police are searching an area in mid-Canterbury after finding a ute believed to have been driven by a fugitive.
William Stewart, 47, is wanted for breaches of bail. He has been at large since February and police believe a number of burglaries and vehicle thefts are linked to him.
A Toyota Hilux ute was seen in Mt Somers on Tuesday morning. He was thought to be driving.
The vehicle was later found in the Mt Somers/ Staverley area.
An intensive search is being carried out there.
Residents are being advised to lock their houses and cars.
