NZX is to take over rural news company Country-Wide Publications.

The New Zealand Stock Exchange operator says the aquisition fits well with its existing farming-related holdings such as Agrifax.

It says CPL, which publishes The NZ Farmers Weekly, Country-Wide North, Country-Wide South and Young Country, is well run and has an impressive readership of more than 85,000 weekly.

CPL will continue to operate out of its Fielding headquarters, managed by its former owners Tony Leggett and Dean Williamson.
