Prime Minister John Key says the Immigration Service is welcome to keep investigating one of his MPs if it believes there are still outstanding issues.
Before last year's election, an investigation was launched into claims that Kanwaljit Bakshi, who was a National Party candidate, offered to get someone a job in exchange for money.
Mr Bakshi is now a list MP and Mr Key says the resultant report has cleared him of wrongdoing and no further action was recommended.
Mr Key says Mr Bakshi has assured him he has done nothing wrong, and he takes him at his word.
