Otago Regional Council has shelved plans to construct a $31 million headquarters on the Dunedin waterfront, so it can consider other options for a new premises.
Councillors voted 8 to 3 in favour of deferring the development at the corner of Kitchener and Birch Streets, when they adopted a long term council community plan on Wednesday.
Chairman Stephen Cairns says all possible options will be made public in the next few weeks.
