Police in Wellington are appealing for witnesses to an aggravated robbery that occurred early on Sunday morning in central Wellington.

A 19-year-old man was walking home from work shortly before 5am and had reached Webb Street when he was punched from behind.

Police say a second offender then arrived and the pair forced the victim to hand over his phone and MP3 player before marching the man to a cash machine at Massey University.

Police say the victim was shaken and bruised during the assault.

Both offenders, described by police as of Maori ethnicity, were last seen walking towards Newtown.
