Waikato University returns neo-Nazi thesis to library

Updated at 9:57pm on 4 July 2009

A thesis featuring neo-Nazi themes is back on the library shelves at Waikato University following an internal investigation prompted by a complaint by a former National Front member.

The thesis, written by Master student Roel van Leeuwen, received first class-honours, but the university removed it from the library last October following a complaint alleging it was sub-standard.

Waikato University Vice Chancellor Roy Crawford says the review found that the supervision and assessment of the thesis were sound.

He says the university is a place of academic rigour which does not shy away from tackling controversial research.

Professor Crawford says the matter is now closed.
