No arrests of overstayers offering information, say police

The police officer leading the investigation into an alleged sale of fake passports and visas to Pacific Islanders says he will not arrest people who come forward with information.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Pizzini told a community immigration meeting in Mangere the focus in the investigation into Gerard Otimi is on allegations of deception, not immigration.

However he says he is unable to offer immigration immunity to anyone who comes forward.

Mangere MP Su'a William Sio says he will meet police and organise people to pass on information discreetly, but says they must see the immigration service over their status.

Mr Otimi is yet to plead on three charges of deception.
